Our Story & Vision

Our Story

Blue Mountains Health Trust was established in 2002 to promote the health and well-being of the people who live in the Blue Mountains local government region. The trust was founded by the late Mary Hammon following the death of her husband Harry Hammon the founder of Scenic World.

Mary had had a great love of the Blue Mountains, having lived here since she was 5 years old. Set up the trust to promote the health and wellbeing of people residing in the Blue Mountains. The trust began in May 2001 with a donation from Mary of $150,000. A further $150,000 was bequeathed upon Mary’s death to the trust.

Mary & Harry contributed throughout their life to the Blue Mountains community. Mary opened her garden for many years raising money for the local hospital and the Royal Blind Society. Harry was a member of the Katoomba Rotary Club for 40 years. Together they were active in many committees and projects including Blue Mountains Chamber of Commerce, Greystanes Children's hospital and local primary and high schools.

Today, Mary’s son Phillip Hammon is Chair of the Trust working alongside the trustees made up from a collection of prominent local Blue Mountains residents. Together they have awarded annual scholarships, provided equipment for Cancer help, purchased a new car for community transport and supplied equipment to young disabled people.

Our Mission

As an organisation we are focused on two main goals.

  1. To support local people in training to become health or allied health providers/professionals and/or to promote medical research, by providing scholarship funds.

  2. Help those who have an illness or disability and have needs which are not covered by government funding. This can include the funding of special equipment, treatment or services or help in managing an illness or disability.
